Islamic Circles and the Centre for Research in Shariah,
and Technology [CRESST] present:

1) GREAT DEBATE: HALAL MEAT OR HORSE! – WHO’S SELLING PORKIEs ?

Date: Friday 10th May 2013
Time: 6pm – 8.15pm
Venue: Regents Hall, 275 Oxford Street, London WC1C 2DJ

With a proliferation of chicken outlets, halal meat is a multi-billion
pound industry for a community less than 3 million, and eating more meat
proportionately, than the wider community. So-called caring and pious
UncleJi Muslim businessmen with blessed ethics and principles, have become
exceptionally rich from the so-called « halal » meat industry.

What began as mislabelling issue and grown into a controversy
involving regulatory bodies, the food industry, halal certification
bodies and the Muslim community. The whole concept of a halal
standard has now come into question. Can industry really comply
to a standard which is not monitored nor enforced? Has industry
confidence in the halal certification process been eroded? Will
the British Muslim community continue to turn a blind eye to
adulteration of the products they consume and use daily?

This public forum will feature experts from public
institutions who have been involved in development of halal
standards and scientific testing of processed foods, personal
care products and pharmaceuticals since the mid 1990’s,
representatives of both Muslim organisations and industry.
